StoryCraft Novel Challenge Day 2: Creating a wishlist to keep you inspired!
We hope you’re as inspired as we are to develop an amazing novel for the StoryCraft Novel Challenge!
Now that we have an idea, it’s time to let it simmer in the soup of creativity. One of our favorite parts of the StoryCraft Process is finding as much inspiration as possible to support this idea all the way through to the end.
Our next exercise is called a Wishlist, but what it looks like is entirely up to you. The point of the Wishlist is to have a list, a board, a collage, or even videos of every single element, emotion, photo, or vibe that excites you about this concept.
It’s a fantastic way to discover all the nebulous, intangible elements of your idea, but it also provides a place for you to return when/if you inevitably hit any form of writer’s block. By having a space full of excitement and possibility, you can return to it at any time to remind yourself of why you decided to write this book in the first place.
Your Wishlist can be a doc with a list of moments and snippets of dialog, or it can be a Pinterest Board, or a Canva file with as many additions as you find helpful. You can develop a lookbook of all your settings and characters, or cast your characters in the eventual movie/TV show of the work (dream big, right?)
Enjoy this part, because writing a novel can be filled with twists and turns, and it’s important that our point of inspiration can sustain us through the entire process from start to finish.
Use the hashtag #StoryCraftNovelChallenge to share your wishlist in whatever form you choose! We can’t wait to see what you’re brewing up!
Happy Writing,
Jess and L Theodoora
